It helps confirm who you are
Lenders can use electoral register information to help verify your name and address. Registering does not guarantee acceptance or a particular change in your credit score.
You can opt out of the open register without leaving the full electoral register. The two registers have different uses.
Check your eligibility and address
Use the official registration service to check eligibility for your nationality, age and part of the UK. You generally need to register again after changing your address.
The update will not necessarily appear on a credit report immediately. If it remains missing, check with your local electoral registration office and the agency.
If you cannot register
Do not provide false registration information. Contact the credit reference agency about adding an explanation to your file, and ask the lender which alternative identity evidence it accepts.
